MSU's Counseling Center

The Counseling Center provides information of the most common issues that can be experienced by first year students along with suggestions of ways parents or guardians can help their students deal with them.

FERPA

MSU complies fully with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA, also known as the Buckley Amendment, is a U.S. federal law that governs access to, and confidentiality of, a student's records. Such things as grades, enrollment records, schedules and classlists cannot be disclosed to third parties without permission of the student. Unless a student has signed a FERPA release form, MSU faculty and staff may not share information about a student's academic record. The Office of the Registrar also has a pdf list of frequently asked questions about FERPA.

The Office of Financial Aid has links to calculators parents and students cam ise to estimate the cost of attending Michigan State University.

This MSU website contains a fairly comprehensive list of scholarships and grants that can help you research funding your student's college education.

Parent's Guide to NCAA Rules Compliance

If your student is an athlete, this document will give you an idea of some of the issues you and your student need to be aware of and possible consequences of rules violations. Contact information is also provided if you need more information about NCAA or Big 10 rules.
