Peer Mentoring Program

Peer Mentoring

Work with a TRIO SSS Peer Mentor!

The TRIO SSS Peer Mentor Program is designed to provide personalized support to students as they transition from high school to college and navigate their academic journey through their second year.

When you opt into the TRIO SSS program, you’re not just joining a support system; you’re gaining a mentor and a pathway to a smoother transition from high school to college. Each participant is assigned an upperclassman mentor who is ready to champion your goals, address your questions, and assist you in navigating the challenges of your college journey.

Our mentorship program is designed to ensure that you have a reliable source of support throughout your first and second years. By meeting with your mentor twice a month each semester, you not only build a strong connection but also fulfill the “2” out of our 3-2-1 requirements. These regular interactions create a space for personalized guidance, where your mentor is dedicated to helping you thrive academically and personally.

Sign-up for a mentor and let your college journey be a rewarding one with TRIO SSS by your side.

Before your first appointment consider:

  • What questions do you have about the mentorship process and meeting with your mentor?
  • What would maximize the mentoring experience for you? What would a successful appointment look like for you today? (Share this with your mentor!)
  • What goals would you like to achieve with the support of your mentor? For example, here are past goals that other scholars have worked on with their mentor:
    • Creating a time management system that works for you and your schedule
    • Determining a study routine for semester exams
    • Identifying learning techniques that are most effective for you
    • Creating a plan for finding academic opportunities (research, study abroad, etc.) or getting connected to other relevant campus resources
    • Setting goals and creating structure to meet those goals
