Academic Advisor, TRIO ProgramBiography
Anthony Cano is an Academic Advisor for the TRIO SSS (Student Support Services) Program at Michigan State University. He joined the university in 2021 and has held previous roles as an Assistant Community Director in housing, as well as a College Transition Advisor for the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) in migrant student services. Anthony holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), and a Master of Arts in Student Affairs Administration from Michigan State University (MSU). Throughout their academic journey, Anthony has been involved with Gear Up, Upward Bound, UNLV Student Support Services, and has also served as a McNair Scholar. As a lifelong TRIO student, Anthony is deeply passionate about the impact of TRIO in supporting students and is committed to creating opportunities for their success in higher education.
TRIO SSS Peer Staff
TRIO SSS Peer Staff are upper level MSU students trained to provide leadership and guidance needed to be successful at MSU. TRIO Peer Coaches meet with scholars and participate in monthly activities involving relationship building with other scholars in the program and showing how to make the most of your time at MSU. TRIO Peer Tutors offer academic support in a variety of courses, in small group formats or one on one tutoring if preferred. TRIO Peer Tutors support scholars with in-person support in our TRIO Tutoring Center (215 Bessey Hall) or virtually via Zoom.
